Aleksey Shegolev is a composer and arranger whose work ranges from concert music to arrangements for ensembles of all kinds. Born in Russia and raised in Canada, he holds a doctorate in composition from the Université de Montréal, where he studied under Alan Belkin and graduated with exceptional distinction.
His works have been heard in concert halls across Canada and internationally, performed by ensembles in the United States, China, France, and Russia, among others. He has received commissions from the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec and from professional orchestras across Canada, for compositions and arrangements alike. He has also written for ensembles of every size and level, crafting music tailored to specific artistic or pedagogical needs, from preparatory repertoire to works written for master’s degree recitals.
Full-time professor at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec, he teaches university-level music writing skills and offers private composition lessons. He has also given masterclasses at home and abroad.
Shegolev co-developed ArtInfuser (artinfuser.com), an interactive counterpoint correction tool for music students.
He is the co-founder and pedagogical director of MusicAtelier, an online studio dedicated to the serious study of musical craft.
